वायु सेना का एएन-32 विमान 29 कर्मियों समेत लापता ; समुद्र में 3400 मीटर की गहराई पर मलबा दिखा
The National Institute of Ocean Technology which functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, had recently deployed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) with deep sea exploration capability at the last known location of the missing An-32. This search was conducted at a depth of 3400 m using multiple payloads, including a multi-beam SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging), synthetic aperture SONAR and high resolution photography. Analysis of search images had indicated the presence of debris of a crashed aircraft on the sea bed approximately, 140 nautical miles (approx. 310 Km) from the Chennai coast. The search images were scrutinised and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft. This discovery at the probable crash site, with no other recorded history of any other missing aircraft report in the same area, points to the debris as possibly belonging to the crashed IAF An-32 (K-2743).

नयी दिल्ली, 12 जनवरी। भारतीय वायु सेना का एक एएन-32 विमान (पंजीकरण के-2743), 22 जुलाई, 2016 को एक ऑपरेशन मिशन के दौरान बंगाल की खाड़ी के ऊपर से लापता हो गया था। इस विमान में 29 कर्मी सवार थे। विमान और जहाजों द्वारा बड़े पैमाने पर खोज और बचाव अभियान किसी भी लापता कर्मी या विमान के मलबे का पता नहीं लगा सके।
राष्ट्रीय महासागर प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, जो पृथ्वी विज्ञान मंत्रालय के तत्वावधान में कार्य करता है। इस संस्थान ने लापता एएन-32 विमान के अंतिम ज्ञात स्थान पर हाल ही में गहरे समुद्र में अन्वेषण क्षमता के साथ एक ऑटोनॉमस अंडरवाटर व्हीकल (एयूवी) तैनात किया। यह खोज मल्टी-बीम सोनार (साउंड नेविगेशन एंड रेंजिंग), सिंथेटिक एपर्चर सोनार और हाई रिज़ॉल्यूशन फोटोग्राफी सहित कई पेलोड का उपयोग करके 3400 मीटर की गहराई पर की गई। खोज के दौरान प्राप्त तस्वीरों के विश्लेषण से चेन्नई तट से लगभग 140 समुद्री मील (लगभग 310 किमी) दूर समुद्र तल पर एक दुर्घटनाग्रस्त विमान के मलबे की उपस्थिति का संकेत मिला।
