The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the release of an additional installment of dearness allowance to Central Government employees and dearness relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 1 this year, representing an increase of 3 per cent over the existing rate of 28 per cent of the basic pay/pension to compensate for price rise.

Humans are increasingly influencing the climate and the earth’s temperature by burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests and farming livestock. This adds enormous amounts of greenhouse gases to those naturally occurring in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and global warming.

Talks between China and Bhutan over their 470 km border have been taking place since 1984, but Chinese claims go back earlier. According to the scholar Medha Bisht, since the 1950s, China has published maps claiming Bhutanese territory. These covered some 764 sq kms, which included 269 sq km in the north western areas, 495 sq kms in north central Bhutan.
