आयुर्वेद शरीर, मन, आत्मा और इंद्रियों के पूर्ण मिलन के रूप में जीवन की कल्पना करता है। मानव शरीर को आयुर्वेद में परस्पर जुडी प्रणाली के एक जटिल मैट्रिक्स के रूप में देखा जाता है: शारीरिक संस्थाओं, , संरचनात्मक घटकों, ऊतकों और उत्सर्जन, या अपशिष्ट पदार्थों का एक संयोजन। इस प्रकार, जीवित व्यक्ति को तीन ह्यूमर (वात, पित्त और कफ़) का समूह माना जाता है, सात मूल ऊतक (रस या प्लाज्मा / लसीका द्रव, मनसा या मांसपेशी, मेदा या वसा, Rakta या रक्त, अस्थि या हड्डी, मज्जा और शुक्राणु या वीर्य) और शरीर के अपशिष्ट उत्पाद (मल, मूत्र और स्वेद या पसीना)। शरीर के मैट्रिक्स के विकास और वृद्धि का सीधा संबंध उसके पोषण, यानी भोजन से है। जैव-अग्नि (अग्नि) की कार्रवाई के माध्यम से, शरीर भोजन को हास्य, ऊतकों और मल में संसाधित करता है। भोजन के अंतर्ग्रहण, अवशोषण, पाचन, आत्मसात और चयापचय का स्वास्थ्य और रोग में एक अंतर है, जिसमें मनोवैज्ञानिक तंत्र के साथ-साथ अग्नि, जैव-अग्नि का महत्वपूर्ण प्रभाव पड़ता है।

Ayurveda conceives life as a perfect union of the body, mind, soul, and senses. The human body is seen as a complex matrix of interconnected systems in Ayurveda: a combination of the physiological entities, the humors, the structural components, the tissues, and the excretions, or waste materials. Thus, the living man is perceived as a conglomeration of the three humors (Vatta, Pitta & Kapha), seven basic tissues (Rasa or plasma/lymph fluid, Mansa or muscle, Meda or fat, Rakta or blood, Asthi or bone, Majja or marrow, and Shukra or semen) and the waste products of the body (Mala or stool, Mutra or urine, and Sweda or sweat). The development and growth of the body matrix are directly related to its nutrition, that is food. Through the action of the bio-fire (Agni), the body processes food into the humors, tissues, and wastes. Ingestion, absorption, digestion, assimilation, and metabolism of food have an interplay in health and disease wherein the psychological mechanisms as well as Agni, the bio-fire has a significant impact.
