Award Ceremony conducted in Indian Military Academy prior to POP
Dehradun, 8 June (UH). The Award Ceremony of Spring Term-22 Passing Out Courses comprising 150 Regular Course and 133 Technical Graduate Course was conducted at the Chetwode Hall, IMA on Wednesday. Gentleman Cadets were felicitated by Lt Gen Harinder Singh Commandant, Indian Military Academy. He bestowed medals and awards to the outstanding Gentleman Cadets who excelled in various fields during their pre-commission training at the Academy. The commandant on this occasion in his address mentioned that battlefield today has extended beyond the frontline, the operational spectrum has become complex, and the adversary does not follow rules.
The training imparted to the Gentleman Cadets at Indian Military Academy is designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge of military fundamentals and leadership, as well as proficiency in basic military skills. It aims to develop the qualities of character, intellect, fitness and competence needed by future-ready officers, who at all times in their career must be prepared to lead.
The Commandant’s Prize distribution and Award Ceremony is an important event that recognizes and encourages the Gentleman Cadets to achieve excellence at the individual level and contribute constructively in a team effort to infuse a sense of camaraderie amongst them. Accordingly, Medals and Rolling trophies have been instituted at IMA, which symbolizes the highest standards achieved at individual and group levels.
The Commandant in his address mentioned that battlefield today has extended beyond the frontline, the operational spectrum has become complex, and the adversary does not follow rules. Conflicts today are multi-dimensional with a fusion of contact and non-contact warfare, networks, information, and cyber warfare waged by the state as well as non-state actors.
The future would require soldiers to not only have a deep understanding of the nature of modern warfare but also be adept and trained to operate in a climate of the complex battlefield environment. He further elaborated that in the military, when the situation gets tough, armed forces rise to the level of expectations of own and their units, organization, and the country. Therein, the military leaders have to rely on battle drills & quick-decision making to outsmart & outclass the enemy. Leadership, therefore, remains a key determinant of victory. The young warrior leaders must endear themselves to their soldiers and inspire them towards selfless and brave conduct.
The Commandant commended all for having achieved such high standards despite the constraints and challenges due to the spread of COVID-19. The Commandant wished the course all the success and glory ahead in the various arms and services allotted to them.
